Welcome to CMC!  We are thrilled that you are joining our intellectual, engaging, caring, and close-knit community.  As your dean, I am available to provide you with support as well as answer any questions or concerns you have about life at CMC.  My goal is to help you find your place in our community.  Below, you will find a variety of additional resources to ensure that you have a smooth transition to CMC and the Claremont Colleges.

While I will do my best to meet and get to know you during your first year here at CMC, you are also welcome to stop by the Dean of Students Office on the first floor of Heggblade Center to meet the other DOS staff.  They are additional resources who will be integral to your transition to CMC.

New Student Mentoring Programs

New Student Sponsors are returning student volunteers who assist new students with their adjustment to college life (residential, social, and academic) during Orientation and throughout their first year at CMC.  For more information, contact Jennifer Jimenez Maraña at (909) 621-8114 or jmarana@cmc.edu.

Asian Pacific American Mentoring Program (APAM) is a CMC organization that provides a solid foundation of academic, social, emotional, and cultural support for first-year and transfer students of Asian descent.  New students who self-identify as Asian/Asian American are placed in small mentor groups led by trained APAM mentors.  For more information, email apamentors@gmail.com.

Chicano Latino Student Affairs (CLSA) Sponsors are returning students whose goal is to mentor the incoming class of Chicano/Latino students with the transition to college life.  The Sponsor serves as a supportive resource person throughout the freshman year.  For more information, visit the CLSA website at http://www.cuc.claremont.edu/clsa/ or call (909) 621-8044.

First Year Students at Hillel (FYSH) is an innovative program that provides compelling and engaging entry points to Jewish life for incoming freshman on the Claremont campuses. International Place Sponsors are returning student volunteers who provide resources and support to new international students.  Incoming international students are assigned an International Place Sponsor who will help them transition to U.S. college life.  For more information, visit the International Place website at http://iplace.claremont.edu/ or call (909) 621-8344.

Queer, Questioning & Allied Mentor Program (QQAMP) mentors students from the five Claremont Colleges who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or allies of the queer community.  Their role is to welcome you into the Claremont community and provide opportunities to become involved in the queer community through programming and developing personal relationships.  For more information, visit the QRC website at http://www.pomona.edu/administration/qrc/ or call (909) 607-1817.

Ujima Mentor Program is hosted by the Office of Black Student Affairs (OBSA).  It is a five-college, peer-advisor program designed for first-year students of African descent.  The primary objective of the program is to contribute to the advancement of first-year students by aiding in their academic, emotional, and social adjustments to college in addition to nurturing their academic and leadership potential.  For more information, visit the OBSA website at http://www.cuc.claremont.edu/obsa/ or call (909) 607-3669.
