EVENTSThe Claremont Colleges Debate Union sponsors intercollegiate and secondary school tournaments, instructional workshops and seminars, public debates, discussions, and lectures, and academic and professional development conferences.
The CCDU hosts 7 intercollegiate and secondary school tournaments annually, including 5 intercollegiate tournaments, the national high school parliamentary debate championship, and the Middle School Public Debate Program (MSPDP) championship.
The Debate Union sponsors summer residential and commuting instructional programs for parliamentary debating. The Claremont Colleges Parliamentary Debate Institute, scheduled each June, has independent programs for college and high school debaters and coaches.
With an historical commitment to promoting argument in the public sphere, the CCDU sponsors dozens of campus and community events, featuring debates, live and broadcast roundtable discussions, town hall meetings, and lectures. The Public Affairs Forum brings together academic and field experts and students and members of the community for careful investigation of major local, national, and international issues.
The CCDU also schedules campus instructional seminars in effective public speaking and argumentation, intercollegiate seminars in competitive debate theory and practice, and professional communication, debate, and leadership conferences.
