Applying for Financial Aid

Freshman and Transfer Students

The College Scholarship Service (CSS) Financial Aid PROFILE application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are both required to be completed by all entering students in order to apply for financial aid.

When What
October October 1 the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE application will be available for you to complete. You can register with the College Board online at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp. (school code: 4054)
December Obtain your Personal Identification Number in order to electronically sign your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at http://www.pin.ed.gov
January You may begin completing your FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov (school code: 001170). You need to complete and transmit the FAFSA to the federal processor by February 1.
You can also print out a copy of the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet to get organized before submitting your FAFSA online.
February Your CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE application must be completed and submitted to the College Board by February 1.

You must submit signed copies of your parent(s) and your 2012 U.S. income tax return(s) to the College Board's document imaging service (IDOC) by March 1, to determine your financial aid eligibility. You can visit the IDOC website at http://idoc.collegeboard.com for more information.

You may use the FAFSA-IRS Data Retrieval tool to input your family’s income information into your FAFSA. The IRS Data Retrieval tool will allow FAFSA to request and retrieve your income and tax data from the IRS.

March

Transfer applicants must submit their completed CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE application to the College Board and their FAFSA to the federal processor by March 2.

CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS: The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) awards Cal Grants on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. CMC requires all students who are California residents seeking financial assistance to apply for a Cal Grant. To be considered for a Cal Grant, you must submit a GPA Verification Form that has been certified by a high school or college official no later than March 2, 2013 to CSAC. Forms may be obtained at your high school or college.

Reply date for admitted Freshmen is May 1.

June

Reply date for admitted Transfers is June 1.

Students who do not apply for or do not receive need-based financial aid upon admission are not guaranteed they will receive financial aid or be considered for financial aid in future years while enrolled at Claremont McKenna College. Each year financial aid consideration will be determined based on the availability of funds.

NOTE TO EARLY DECISION CANDIDATES: Your completed FAFSA should be submitted to the federal processor by Feb. 1. You must register and submit your CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE application as follows:
