Clubs and Organizations

On the campus of CMC, there are over 40 different clubs and organizations you can join that cater to a variety of interests, cultures, and activities. If you are interested in learning about more of what we have to offer here on campus, attend the Club Fair hosted at the beginning of each semester to meet with group representatives and to learn more about how to become a member. For a current list of CMC-specific organizations, check out the list below!

Beyond the CMC-specific clubs, the Claremont Colleges have a host of 5C organizations. The members of these groups include students from Pomona, Pitzer, Claremont McKenna, Scripps, and Harvey Mudd. All events and programs hosted through these groups cater to students across the 5C’s. All 5C organizations are recognized through the Associated Students of Pomona College. If you are interested in joining one of these organizations attend the 5C Club Fair at the beginning of each semester to meet with group representatives and to learn more about becoming a member.

If you find that the current list of clubs does not match your interests, we encourage you to create your own organization! Through a basic application process Student Activities and the ASCMC Campus Organizations Chair, will help you get started!

Organization Resources

The Student Activities Office offers a variety of resources, services, and opportunities to ensure that student organizations are able to thrive and reach their full potential. If you have any questions regarding the information available please contact us at studentactivities@cmc.edu.

Club Recognition

Becoming a recognized student organization at CMC provides a unique opportunity for students to reserve spaces around campus, register and host events, and use the CMC name and logo for recognition and promotion. Recognized student organizations have access to Student Activities resources and workshop series, as well as, event and organization consultation.

Steps to Recognition

  1. Review Student Activities Organization policies
    • Become familiar with institutional policies, specifically student organization policies for officers and activities, to ensure that the proposed organization will adhere to expectations for the entire CMC community.
    • Policies can be found here or you are welcome to pick up a physical copy from Student Activities located in the Dean of Students Office in Heggblade Center.
  2. Complete Application for Recognition
    • Student organizations are chartered only once but must complete a registration form and roster each year. To become a recognized student organization, you must complete the Application for Recognition. This online form will require an updated roster and constitution in order to be submitted.
  3. Attend the mandatory club leaders Orientation Workshop
    • Approved organizations’ officers will attend a club and organizations training to prepare them to lead a successful organization. A minimum of one officer is required to attend the workshop. As soon as the organization completes the training requirement, it may begin/resume operating and meeting.

Workshops and Training Sessions

The club leaders Orientation Workshop is a mandatory student organization meeting that prepares organization leaders to better understand Student Activities policy,event registration procedures, and the ASCMC budget and reimbursement process. It is mandatory for a student organization to have a leader attend this training session once a year in order to be informed and educated on how to best lead and protect their organization.

The club leaders Orientation Workshop for fall 2014 has already passed. To acquire the information covered in this meeting please attend the Club and Org Office hours hosted every week on Fridays from 1:30-3:30 in the Armour Conference Room in Heggblade Center.


Start an Organization

Chartering a student organization at CMC presents an incredible opportunity to serve the campus community, develop new leadership skills, and enrich your college experience. The following steps are required to charter a recognized student organization.

Application for Student Organization Charter

  1. Schedule a meeting with Student Activities and the ASCMC Student Organizations Chair
    • Determine the need for a new organization
    • Understand the new organization process
    • Receive a copy (hard or soft copy) of Student Activities’ policies
  2. Review Student Activities Organization policies
    • Become familiar with institutional policies, specifically student organization policies for officers and activities, to ensure that the proposed organization will adhere to expectations for the entire CMC community.
  3. Complete application for charter
    • Student organizations are only chartered once. After an organization has been chartered, they will renew their active status once a year using the Application for Recognition form. The charter application will require a list of club leaders, a roster, and a constitution.
    • If you need assistance with writing a constitution, please use these sample constitutions or feel free to contact Student Activities or the ASCMC Clubs and Organizations Chair.
  4. Submit application
    • Submit the forms electronically through the Application Charter form
    • The application will be reviewed by the Assistant Director of Student Activities and the ASCMC Clubs and Organizations Chair. If the application is approved for charter, you will receive an email confirmation and the date of the next club leaders Orientation Workshop.
  5. Attend the Orientation Workshop
    • Approved organizations’ officers will attend a club and organizations training to prepare them to lead a successful organization. A minimum of one officer is required to attend the workshop annually. As soon as the organization completes the training requirement, it may begin/resume operating and meeting.
