The Center for Civic Engagement strives to foster personal and character development in CMC students through co-curricular programming in the areas of service, citizenship, and sustainability. Specifically, our goals are to:
- Serve as a resource center for students interested in community, national and international service by developing relationships with a variety of groups in need of volunteers and providing support for student involvement
- Encourage sustainability practices in students’ everyday lives through education and resource allocation
- Encourage an active role in the political process on a community, state, and national level
- Develop active participation in public life and community problem solving to strengthen social capital in one’s community
- Develop a strong sense of civic responsibility through involvement with civic leaders and awareness about individual responsibility
- Support the academic curriculum at the College with service-learning programming and events focused on ethics and responsibility
- Promote support of the arts and cultural events as a platform for community engagement
- Extend our programming to the College community as a whole, including faculty, staff, and alumni
